Astrothelium similar to A. graphicum Aptroot & S.M.A. Martins, which has generally smaller ascospores, reaching 66 μm. Hamathecium not inspersed. Ascospores hyaline, 8/ascus, 1–2 septate, later multiseptate, in the end muriform, 50–75 × 12–27 μm. Chemistry: thallus and pseudostroma UV-, orange pigment K+ purple, UV+ red, TLC: an anthraquinone.
